Nick Brown grundlagde Nikwax. I en alder af ti år gik han ofte med sin far på vandring og senere vandrede han ofte i Skotland. Han var ofte skuffet over de imprægneringsprodukter der fandtes og besluttede sig for at lave sin egen opskrift på imprægnering.
