Why Black Week?

There are a few things to discuss about Black Week. Firstly, campaigns like Black Week can lead to overconsumption, making people buy things they don't actually need. This is an ongoing challenge for retailers, but it's particularly highlighted during Black Week.

In reality, what we sell during Black Week doesn't cause more environmental damage than what's sold at other times of the year. The difference is that products are usually cheaper during Black Week. This doesn't in itself increase the burden on our planet. Just because you pay more for a product doesn't make it more eco-friendly. We want you to think ahead and plan your purchases so you can avoid overconsumption.

Another sustainability issue with Black Week concerns working conditions. As shopping becomes more concentrated, the strain also increases at several points in the supply chain. This affects our own staff, our couriers, and personnel at pickup and drop-off locations. We're doing our best to handle this impact. We've invested in an automated warehouse to better manage sales surges. We also partner with a few selected transport companies that prioritize workplace safety.

We'll continue working on the Black Friday campaign. For us, not participating would mean a significant financial loss, and we don't see it benefiting the climate. If we stopped, people would likely just shop elsewhere. And in many cases, these may be companies that do not take climate or other sustainability issues seriously at all. We can promise that we do.
