If you prefer to carry it on your back, there are adjustable shoulder straps that can be stowed away when not in use, and they can also be fastened together to create a comfortable carry handle for times when you want to carry the bag by hand.
The large opening to the main compartment gives you a good overview of your belongings, and there are compression straps both inside and outside to keep your packing in place.
