LARQ was founded in San Francisco 2017 with the vision to combine innovative technology with inspirational design to help people access pristine drinking water easily and sustainably. More than 31 million Europeans are in need of basic water sanitation, among them 16 million still lack access to clean drinking water. As a result, one million single-use plastic water bottles are used every minute, worldwide. With this in mind LARQ set out to make clean drinking water more accessible and reduce single-use plastic pollution. Their first invention, the LARQ Bottle, was an instant success; a self-cleaning water bottle with advanced UV-C LED technology that cleans both the bottle and the water inside, eliminating 99.9999% of germs, bacteria, and bio-contaminants. As of 2022 LARQ has now also introduced filtration technology in addition to their original UV-C LED purification, namely PureVisTM.
