Tenaya was founded in 1997 by José Luis García and his entrepreneurial family. José Luis comes from a family where all four brothers are climbers, and he had his first climbing experience when he was 8 years old. His passion for bigwall climbing has taken him around the world and inspired him to climb famous peaks like Fitz Roy and El Capitan. During a climbing trip in Yosemite National Park in 1995, the idea took shape to develop better products with passion and dedication, while respecting and remaining true to the needs of climbers. Only two years after the first Tenaya products were launched, they were already being used for climbing in the toughest conditions in the world. Today, Tenaya is one of the most popular outfitters among climbers around the world and is used in the most challenging environments.
