It is a relatively simple form of water sport that allows you to enjoy the tranquility on the water without a lot of equipment and experience. In our range you will find everything you need to get started - SUP boards, paddles, life vests, swimwear and waterproof dry bags if you want to bring some packing on the water.
SUP – Stand Up Paddling
SUP (Stand Up Paddling) has become increasingly popular lately and is often the first step to other water sports for many beginners. SUP is quite similar to wave surfing but instead of relying on wind and waves, you stand up on the board and use a paddle to paddle your way forward. This allows you to paddle on your SUP in almost any water, such as lakes and rivers. SUP boards are also larger than traditional surfboards, which makes it easier to keep your balance when standing on the board.
SUP – A water sport for everyone
You can compare SUP to kayaking, but instead of sitting down in a kayak, you stand up on a board. The low level of difficulty and the fact that you can paddle on SUP in your nearest lake make SUP a water sport that almost everyone can try. SUP is popular for the following reasons, among others:
- Easy to get started
- Very little equipment required
- Can be done almost anywhere there is water
- Social and fun for the whole family
What do you need to start SUP?
You don't have to buy a ton of equipment to start with SUP. All you need is a SUP board with a catch strap, a paddle and swimwear. Then it's just a matter of getting to the nearest lake or sea and start paddling. Many beginners prefer an all-round board and sometimes buy a chair. It's easier to sit down and paddle before you've gotten good at keeping your balance on the board. There are also models designed for racing and paddling in waves. Racing boards are, as the name sounds, faster boards for those who want it to go fast. Wave boards are instead designed to make it easier to turn and maneuver on waves. SUP boards are available both as rigid boards, which look like surfboards, and inflatable models, which are easier to transport. You can read about our SUP boards on each board's product page.
Choose the right size SUP board
Dimensions play a big role when choosing a SUP board. Longer boards glide more easily over the surface of the water and are a good choice if you are going to paddle long distances. Wider SUP boards are more stable and are perfect for beginners who need help keeping their balance. Short boards are best suited for paddling in the sea, as the smaller size makes it easier to steer the board on the waves.
Getting started with SUP is easy because you don't need a lot of accessories to get started. In addition to a SUP board, you need a paddle to be able to get across the water. These come in different materials and lengths. Plastic paddles are cheaper but a bit heavier, while carbon paddles are a bit more expensive but weigh very little. You'll also need a strap that attaches to your SUP board and around your shin. The strap ensures that the board does not float away if you fall off. To make transporting the board easier, you can also mount a roof rack on the car where you can attach your SUP board.
