A base layer set is almost a must for all active kids – perfect for preschool, a ski trip, outdoor play in the snow or as a cozy piece indoors on a cold winter's day. We have base layers for all kids, from the very smallest up to juniors. Feel free to use our filtering function to select the material, color, price range and brand you are interested in. Also look for material weight in g/m2 on each product, this determines how thick or thin a base layer is. The higher the number, the thicker and therefore more insulating the fabric, and vice versa with lower numbers.
Purchase new base layers for children and juniors online at Outnorth. Here you'll find base layer shirts, base layer pants, and complete base layer sets in many comfortable materials, such as merino wool.
Comfortable base layers with soft, chafe-free seams
A base layer is difficult to adjust once it is on the body and other clothes are layered on top. This is especially true when you are already out on the ski slopes or the track. It's easy to figure out that base layers with seams that chafe or are otherwise uncomfortable will likely not be chosen for more adventures after just a few uses. We offer many soft and comfortable base layers that do not chafe, including pants with flatlock seams from Urberg, designed to prevent any unnecessary discomfort.
Breathable base layers
When buying base layers, it's important to choose materials that breathe and preferably retain their warming capabilities even when damp. A good example of such a material is wool, which many of the base layers we sell for children and juniors are made of. A popular type of wool used in many base layers is merino wool. Merino wool has many special qualities that make it an optimal material for clothing worn close to the body. It does not retain body odors in the same way as other materials and therefore doesn't need to be washed as often; instead, it can be aired out and still feel fresh. It is also a material that breathes well and has a good ability to transport moisture, plus merino wool dries quickly if it gets wet.
